한양중....2006 ,9 영어말하기대회
아름다운 추억
한양중학교 2-4반 이 상우
지난해 겨울에 우리 가족에게는 잊히지지 않을 예쁘고 아름다운 일이 있었다.
우연히 서울시에서 ‘소망트리만들기’ 대회를 개최한다는 소식을 듣게 된 것이다.
우리 가족은 그 대회에 출전을 해서 뜻 깊은 겨울을 보내기로 결정했다..
무엇을 만들 것인지, 어떤 재료를 선택할 것인지, 또 어떻게 만들 것인지를 어머니, 아버지, 동생과 함께
상의를 하고 서로의 의견을 내놓으며 즐거워했다.
12월이 오면 해마다 어디서나 볼 수 있는 크리스마스트리를 우리가족도 만들었었다.
하지만 이 소망트리는 나무에 장식을 매어다는 그런 단순한 트리가 아니라 우리의 소망과 우리의 머릿속에 있는 생각을 표현해야만 하는 창작트리인 것이다.
며칠 동안 가족회의를 한 결과 우리는 움직이는 로봇트리를 만들기로 결정했다.
나의 아버지의 별명이 ‘맥가이버’이다.
무엇이든 척척 만들어 내시는 아버지와, 번쩍이는 어머니의 아이디어,
그리고 동생과 나는 그것을 만드는데 들어가는 많은 재료들을 길거리에 버려진 재활용품들을 주워서
나르며 서로가 할 수 있는 일들을 하기 시작했다.
작년 겨울은 지독히도 추웠었다.
그 추운겨울에 행사장인 광화문의 열린마당은 찬바람이 휙휙 들이치며 황량함을 더해주었다.
낮에는 학교와 직장에서 각자 할일을 하고, 저녁에는 다 같이 열린마당에 모여 트리를 만들기 시작했다.
주최측인 서울시에서는, 그 추운 날씨에도 트리를 만들기 위해 열린마당에 나온 사람들을 위해
따뜻한 물과 라면 등을 준비해 주며 그야말로 축제를 즐길 수 있도록 도와주었다.
버려진 마네킹의 팔을 주운 것으로 로봇의 팔을 만들고, 불빛을 비추는 둥그런 전구 커버를 사용하여
머리를 만들고 다 써서 버려진 페인트 통으로 몸통을 만드는 등
하루 이틀이 지나면서 우리의 로봇은 서서히 모양을 갖추기 시작했다.
눈보라가 치고 자꾸만 곤두박질치는 영하의 기온도 우리의 이 따뜻한 마음을 얼리지는 못했다.
그렇게 며칠을 고생하며 로봇트리는 완성되어졌고 점등식이 있던 날 우리 가족과 다른 참가팀들
그리고 구경하러 모여든 많은 시민들은 불이 들어오던 그 순간 모두가 하나가 되어 함성을 질렀다.
아름다운 불빛이 깜빡이고, 머리가 좌우로 움직이며 ‘메리 크리스마스’를 외치는 로봇트리의 가슴에
사랑의 모금함을 달아주고 적지 않은 돈을 넣어주었다.
시민들도 덩달아 조금씩 넣어주어 따뜻한 마음을 표현해 주었다.
며칠간의 전시와 그것을 구경하는 시민들의 투표에 힘입어 우리가 만든 그 로봇은 시상식 날
창작상이란 큰 상을 받게 되었다.
나의 가족은 너무나 기쁘고 행복했다.
우리의 마음과 사랑을 듬뿍 받았던 트리는 며칠 동안 더 열린마당에서 따뜻함을 보여주다가
강남성모병원에 기증이 되었다.
그 병원 현관 앞에서도 어린이 환자들에게 많은 웃음과 사랑을 주었고 또 받았다고 한다.
그동안 모여진 모금함에 많은 돈이 모여졌고 그 돈은 어린이 환자들에게 좋은 일에 쓰여 졌다고 하니
더더욱 뿌듯하다.
정말로 뜻 깊고 행복한 겨울이었다.
이것이 우리의 로봇트리입니다(사진첨부)
너무 멋지죠?
세상에 하나밖에 없는 우리의 로봇트리는 그렇게 우리와 어린아이들의 가슴속에서
영원히 아름다운 추억으로 남게 되었고 로봇트리의 환한 미소가 언제까지나 아름다운 세상을
우리에게 안겨 주리라 믿어봅니다.
A Beautiful Memory

Hi-everyone! I'm Lee-Sang-Woo.
My family made a very beautiful and unforgettable memory last winter.
We had heard a news by chance that there was going to be 'a Hope Tree' contest sponsored by Seoul City Hall.
My family decided to participate in the contest.
We thought it would be very fruitful to our family.
What tree shall we make? What kind of raw material will we use? How can we make it? My family very happy while we were discussing what we were going to prepare for the contest.
We used to make a Christmas tree in December every year. Not every tree was so special. But a wish tree was different. We had to express our wish through the wish tree.
After a long discussion for several days my family decided to make a moving Robot tree.
My father is a MacGyver, who can make anything we need.
My mother is a woman with full of bright ideas.
My brother and I gathered all kinds of recyclable materials on the street around
my neighborhood.
All of us played each one's roll.
Last winter was very cold. The wish tree competition was held in
the Public Square in Gwang-hwa-moon.
The place was so cold, that all the contestants shiver.
All contestants had to make their wish tree after his work or school in the square.
Authorities from the city hall prepared warm water and noodle to shivering contestants, to cheer them up so that everyone could enjoy the contest.
My family made a tree with an arm of a wasted plastic dummy, empty paint cans
and a wasted lampshade.
The dummy's arm turned into the arm of our Robot Tree.
The lampshade became the head of our Robot Tree.
The cans turned into the body of the Robot.
Our Robot Tree shaped up little by little.
The storm and freezing temperature could not make our warm, exciting hearts.
After hard work our Robot Tree was completed at last,
When my family turned on the lights of the Robot in unison, all competitor stood near by us and a lot of bystanders exclaimed with wonder
Our Robot nodded and greeted 'Merry Christmas' with human voice and winked with its beautiful lights.
A lot of citizen donated much money into the charity box hung on our Robot Tree.
After exhibition for several days, the citizens voted for the best tree. Our Robot Tree won a big prize, The Most Creative Tree.
Several days later, our Robot and donated money were donated to children patients of Saint Mother Hospital in Gang-nam after exhibition .
We were encouraged by lots of donated fund and the fund was used for children patients. It was a very cold, but very warm winter.
I believe that our unique Robot Tree with its wink and bright smile, will remain on my family's mind and the children patients' minds forever.
This is our Robot Tree. Don't you think it is wonderful?
It was a special and beautiful memory to make our Robot Tree.
